JON KLASSEN

Standard

I sat there wondering about the incorrigible children when I first noticed. I noticed that I liked the book not for the subtle childishness and faithful humor but for the love of the book cover.

Jon Klassen it is. An illustrator, designer, animator and a wonderful story teller with all the new strategies to bind you in the tale.

The book cover from “Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place”

He also illustrated several other children’s books including Cat’s Night Out by Caroline Stutson.

Already a classic in Noveau Art and much of a story teller himself I think his most recognizable work by all is the all-colored-in-pastel 2D animation shorts in Kung Fu Panda 2. The character designs, although, were made by Nico Marlet at Dreamworks (more on him in the next post).

Till the next post for the love of art in a fantasy driven child’s world read the books by Maryrose Wood or wait for the latest by Jon- Vanished (author- Sheela Chari)

15 ‘interesting’ album covers of recent times. Because who are we to say good, bad or ugly.
(No Death Metal band album covers were included as I want to keep it a PG-13 blog.)

15.Bill Callahan- Sometimes I wish we were an eagle.
Sometimes I wish we were an eagle.- self-help music for horses??

14.Herb Alpert- Whipped Cream and Other Delights.
I could never decide to put it in the best or the worst lot. A piece of art it is nonetheless.

13.Jarvis Cocker- Jarvis
That is what Jarvis looks like. Yes it is. The one in red shirt……. Did we tell you what Jarvis looks like?

12.Radiohead- Rainbows.
In kindergarten we all thought rainbows were cool. In high school we were thinking the same about Radiohead. But even the obvious needs some abstraction.

Thanks for rubbing the fact in. #inspired-environmentalists-clan

Lorenzo Homar. Ballerinas and Mr Morales !

Standard

I decided to move back a little in the art of graphic design and screen printing and while wafting in the world of art this fine day we move to Puerto Rico and its greatest designer ever Sir Lorenzo Homar (1913-2004). After a diverse career in gymnastics and jewellery making at Cartier Lorenzo Homar finally found his heart underneath sheets of silkscreen.

He designed several posters used for the Pan-American Games, 1979

He made several other posters for Ballets and Festivals merging Iconography with Spanish themes to produce the picturesque connection between Puerto Rico and Spain. My three personal favorites amongst his posters are.

Ballets de San Juan, Teatro Tapia, 6to Festival de Teatro Puertorriqueña (1963)

Ferrer Esculturas (Sculptor Ferrer)

Homenaje a un aniversario, taller de histriones (for the anniversay of Workshop Histriones)

But Lorenzo Homar was a man of design he saw the world in shapes and typography, intricate and entangled. But when it came to mortals he saw the simplest in them. It is the caricature art by Sir Lorenzo that keeps us in awe and yet under surmises.

Arthur Buckley, Boston
When fishes flew, and, flowers walked
and figs grew upon thorn
some moment when the moon
was blood, then surely I was born

Cpl. Ernest Hughes, Los Angeles
Tiger! Tiger! Burning bright
in the forests of the night,
what immortal hand or eye
could frame thy fearful symmetry

Harry “Curly Flash” Firehock, Long Island, N.Y.

Sgt. Everett Gould, Fitchburg, Mass
By his looks and playing I’d say he looks like Hackett at Nick’s.

And the best of his works: ‘You answer, Mr Morales!’
